Tabs for June 30th 2023

  • Shattering the myth that men are hunters & women are gatherers
  • NASA Spinoff. An amazing archive of items built or invented as a direct result of NASA invention.
  • Grug brained developer. Blows my mind that someone did this without descending into madness.
  • Private equity buyout of music (YouTube link)
  • M2 Mac Pro review. Great machine on it's own, but compared to everything else Apple does, it's just not that much bang for buck.
  • Password Game. Neal does it again. This is fantastic.
  • OceanGate is an allegory for everything. "I am not angry because the submarine was badly-made. I am angry because I live in a vastly larger pressure vessel being managed and maintained by the exact same people."
  • Lutris. Nothing new here, but I stumbled on this when considering my home Plex setup's value in the face of them letting staff go. Plex are surely going to cop onto "modern" SaaS pricing and penny pinch everyone.
  • Identi.ca paper. Many years old, but an interesting look at what wound up to be Activity Pub.
  • Loud quitting. "But many younger workers—knowingly and unknowingly following in a long tradition of labor activism and more radical anti-work politics—are immersed in media (particularly on TikTok, but also on Reddit) that invites them to question the directive to “love” your job or even want to work."
