Tabs for February 10th 2023
- FOSDEM post. I'm useless at development but would love to see how the FOS world ticks, in-person.
- "Rosenthaler Platz U-Bahn station in Berlin is entirely decorated with radioactive uranium glazed tiles"
- Turrican 2 AGA released
- Analogue.gg updated. Inspired by this very site, I updated my games site. Despite being a clone with stylistic changes, it nearly broke me.
- Tech elites hate labour
- Tech CEOs screwed up
- Class warfare for tech workers
- Twitter Blue has 180k subscribers. Article pitches it as a bad number, but honestly, I've no idea if that's ok or not. It certainly isn't bridging a $40bn delta.
- 45th International Wolfenbüttel Summer Course „Early Modern Visual Data: Organizing Knowledge in Printed Books“
- French law will mandate solar panel blanketing car parks
- Solar panel bike lane in South Korea
- Shift Happens. A kickstarter for a book about mechanical keyboards. Almost impossible for me to ignore!
- Project Sunroof. Google using their maps/satellite data to help people determine the cost savings of solar is phenomenal.
- 190823. Aphex Twin site apparently promoting a gig in summer. I love how Richard James knocks these cryptic things out of the park so consistently.
- BP's CEO backs off fossil reductions amid record profits. Government's should be ashamed of how weak they have been. $26bn in profit is a disgrace when the cost of that is ill-health in humans and the planet.
- Bill Gates spends a huge amount on climate research so... he should be allowed to pollute?. Gates has a modus operandi, and always has done, that is selfish and self-indulgent. His recent attempts to clear his name and brand with philanthropy isn't working because he regularly resets to his base point and reveals himself to be a bit of an ass.
- Getty suing Stable Diffusion for $1.8tn. Imagine claiming to have artificial intelligence (as opposed to machine learning), and then having that AI draw similar-to-Getty images, even with the Getty watermark.
- Old NYC. Fantastic resource to explore ye olde NYC
- ChatGPT is a privacy nightmare
- Shell's board sued over 'flawed' climate plan. No shit. These guys will be looked upon in the near-term the way we currently see companies that produce cigarettes
- Pompeii has terracota solar panels Amazing that something so aesthetically blended can generate electricity
