Tabs for April 8th 2023
- Tesla workers access & share car cam footage. A gross, gross invasion of privacy.
- ...but it's not just a Tesla problem
- ChatGPT is leaky & sharing secret info. The story of Samsung workers accidentally leaking code through GPT's systems highlights flaws with global, open LLM training.
- Twitter deactivates RTs on Tweets with Substack links. Pathetic shadow-banning of a platform that's apparently building a rival "micro-blogging" service.
- SynthGPT April fool's joke goes big. In a hilarious twist of fate, the jokers behind this are now inundated with requests for it to be real.
- Deep green. Yes, this is a link to paint. But people are going ballistic about it, apparently. Top quality colour for top quality people.
- CSGOFloat switching to new payments provider. I work in this space so it's interesting to see the clash of work and gaming.
- Tim Cook profile. Deep, all-encompassing dive into a typically reclusive leader.
- Niche Duo. I have the Zero, and love it. So seeing them release something new gave me anxiety (they are pricey). But seeing that it absolutely does nothing for me gave me relief!
- Klak. Emulating mechanical keyboard sound is a weird one, but I'm kind of into it.
- Make Something Wonderful. A book by Jobs.
- Webamp. Winamp, still doing something with Llamas and asses.
- Dan Gilmore encourages journos to ditch the dead bird site. In favour of Mastodon.
- YouTube pranksters scamming scammers. Long, but excellent read.
- Robin Rendle on time control. Time is the only currency that matters.
- Weebs. Having spent time in Japan, the term, while aiming at being offensive, absolutely describes a mad subculture of westerners that idolise Japan. But the Japanese do this with western cultures too. I have no idea how or why, but around central Tokyo, people adore France.
- Inside Figma's engineering culture
- You can still reach your fans via email. "Email is dead" is a mantra as old as SMTP's invention.
- The Purkinje effect. Explains why blue lights are so irritating in low light to my eyes.
- Wankers of the world. Using AI art to normalise the elite.
