Notes for Week 51, 2024
Song of the week:
Notes
One of my very passive hobbies is cars. I've loved them since I was a youngster. And watching my two grow up (4 and nearly 3 years of age), the apple certainly does not fall far from the tree. I've written about this here before, so won't go into nauseating detail or anything.
But two things that's always surprising about hobbies like this are:
1) There's always some new flavour that crops up to catch your interest. Sometimes that's down to age (like I'm really into the idea of restoring a 1985 car, because that was the year of my birth -- anyone want to give me a Porsche 944?!). I'm also coming around to drifting, something I never enjoyed before. A lot of that is honestly down to really enjoying drifting my son's electric RC car (a Tamiya TT-02 rally spec). It being a rally spec car, which we upgraded heavily through the year, means it's not that suitable. So obviously I'm eyeing up a new build! I'll credit juiceboxforyou's YouTube for informing me on the culture around drifting, etc. 2) Men aren't into things. Mates of mine have almost zero hobbies or interests that they feel comfortable talking about or spelunking into. They act like they're 13 and being bullied in school. It's tough to see because having little hobbies (cars, photography, cooking, etc.) are a wonderful way to keep learning, developing and meeting new people.
A totally different thread to pull is that I've been back on the vinyl bandwagon. Every paycheque I take a little bit and punt it on some stock, nothing serious. And a little gift of some vinyl to myself. Always weird stuff that I might not remember when it comes to Apple Music / digital streaming normally. Or stuff that I feel warrants supporting the artist, or even the label when they're weird. I'll credit yoyaku for getting me into weird DJ sets in a small shop!
